My son takes insulin cocktails. Recently we have felt much pressure from our physician about switching to Lantus and NovoLog. So we finally tried it. Our son spent six days with blood sugars from 300-400 mg/dl [16.7-22.2 mmol/L] during the day and frequently went low at night. Are we mistreating him by using the old style NPH? Did we not try the Lantus/NovoLog regimen long enough?

My 12 year old son, who has had type 1 diabetes for four years, was on a twice daily combination of Actrapid [Regular] and Monotard [NPH].
